Most references teach the technique and abandon you at the skin. This one follows the patient the whole way — from the angiogram you read the night before, through the anastomosis, to the drain output at hour six that tells you whether you are going back in. Written as an experienced surgeon speaks at the table, in specifics rather than generalities: the caliber below which patency falls away, the bite depth that costs a pacemaker, the millimetre that separates a clean myectomy from a septal defect.
Every operation in adult acquired cardiac disease is carried as one continuous line — indication, planning, exposure, conduct, separation, recovery — so the whole case sits in one volume instead of three. Printed in full color with realistic clinical and operative imagery, labeled only for the teaching point rather than crowded with every visible structure.
Where this volume earns its place on your shelf:
- Coronary work in full, including composite Y and T graft construction, sequential and diamond anastomoses, transit-time flow interpretation, and revising a bad graft before you leave the table
- Valve surgery by mechanism, not by label — segmental mitral analysis, neochordal reconstruction, aortic cusp repair with effective and geometric height targets, and the honest criteria for abandoning a repair
- Aortic surgery from root to thoracoabdominal, with cerebral protection strategy, frozen elephant trunk, and spinal cord protection set out as a working bundle
- Reoperation and hostile anatomy, covering graft mapping before reentry, protecting the patent internal thoracic conduit, and reconstruction after failed transcatheter repair
- The first twelve hours in intensive care, where structured handover, drain thresholds, subtle tamponade, vasoplegia, and emergency resternotomy are treated as surgical problems
- Complications named with their fixes — groove disruption, outflow obstruction, ostial injury, malperfusion, conduction block — each with the specific decision that prevents it
- Color figures, algorithms, and decision pathways built to be consulted the night before a case and again after a difficult one
Written for surgeons, fellows, residents, intensivists, anesthesiologists, and perfusionists who carry these patients. The reasoning is explicit, the numbers are specific, and the judgment is the kind that usually takes a decade at the table to acquire.

Store description
**Please note our transit times are from the date of dispatch.** We first started out as “The Paperback Exchange,” a chain of physical bookstores where we would part exchange your beloved books for new stories to transport you to faraway places. However, as shopping started to evolve to online shops and marketplaces, we bid our stores goodbye to become “PBShop.” This transition has only allowed us to blossom as we now ship thousands of titles to book lovers across the globe. We pride ourselves in being a community of local book lovers which allows our passion and devotion to shine in everything we do. In 2020 we not only celebrated our 20th birthday but our 1st birthday as being completely employee owned after becoming an E.O.T in September 2019. We are proud to be different and embrace standing apart on a book mountain by working from a virtual inventory which allows us to provide thousands of books that may be difficult to get for your bookshelf or your studies. Working with a number of different suppliers allows us to explore other avenues such as puzzles, sheet music and even stationery so we really do have something for everyone. Life is about being versatile in all realms of existence. If this is your first purchase with us, or you are a returning customer, we would like to welcome you to the PBShop family, for there is no friend as loyal as a book. We are a company who put our customers at the centre of everything we do as we understand the importance of reading because once you learn to read, you will forever be free. There are a whole lot of things in this world of ours that we are yet to explore, which is why we will forever inspire curious minds.…
