Add to basketA lucid presentation of China's contemporary culture and society and the modern historical landmarks that have influenced it are the centerpiece of The Complete Idiot's Guide® to Modern China. Defining events that will be covered in the first half of the book range from Mao Zedong's Cultural Revolution to the era of Deng Xiaoping and the Tiananman Square Massacre to China's more recent take over of Hong Kong and its acceptance into the WTO. The latter half of the guide will examine important but complex questions about Chinese domestic challenges with human rights, education, the environment, Tibet and opportunities in economic growth and world leadership, as well as its increasingly important foreign relations--friendly and hostile.
