Using interviews with 6 top Bullmastiff breeders, author Vanessa Richie has created an in-depth look at what it REALLY takes to successfully live with, raise, and train a Bullmastiff.
Covering Bullmastiff-specific topics you NEED TO KNOW, such as:
- How their history as a Gamekeeper’s night dog still shapes their personality today
- How their large frame and imposing size can cover a gentle, loyal heart
- Early training (including housebreaking) strategies that are proven to work with a Bullmastiff
- Helpful strategies for socializing your Bullmastiff with other dogs
- How schedules and routines are vital to your Bullmastiffs training
- The best and most efficient exercise strategies (both mental and physical) to keep your Bullmastiff puppy happy and tired out!
If you are considering bringing a Bullmastiff into your home (or already have!) then you need to read this book as soon as possible!
Bullmastiffs are intelligent, and as a result, they can get bored far too easily. They require someone who is confident, patient, and able to consistently apply rules to not only make them a great family dog, but to keep them safe from problems that come with being a large dog.
This guide will give you all the information you need not only to decide if a Bullmastiff is the right fit for your household, but also to guide you to the right individual dog, and how to properly train it. In these pages, you will discover the answers to such crucial questions as:
- Is a Bullmastiff the right dog for me and/or my family?
- How do I prepare my family and other pets for the arrival of a Bullmastiff?
- How do I prepare my home for an active, protective Bullmastiff?
- What training methods are most effective for Bullmastiffs?
Whether you live alone or have a large family, a Bullmastiff can be a fantastic addition to an active household with consistent rules. And they have the kind of patience you want if you have small kids, and you are willing to put in the time to train them – both the kids and the dog – in how to safely interact. Once properly trained, your dog can even put up with kids trying to use them as a bed.
For people who are active and love big dogs, this is a dog that can give you the kind of active companion to share in your favorite hobbies.
This book delves into nearly every aspect of the Bullmastiff breed, including:
- The complete history of the loyal and protective Bullmastiff
- How to select a good Bullmastiff breeder
- What to expect if you’ve adopted a Bullmastiff from a rescue or shelter
- Bullmastiff-proofing your home
- What to expect the first few days home
- Housetraining your Bullmastiff
- The vital importance of mental and physical exercise
- Training and socialization techniques for your Bullmastiff
- Common behavior issues for Bullmastiffs (and how to prevent them)
- How to choose the best veterinarian for your dog
- Health and wellness information for all stages of a Bullmastiffs life
- How to care for an aging Bullmastiff
