AI is now a privacy problem. Privacy is now an AI governance problem. Most legal resources still treat them as two different subjects — this handbook treats them as the single field they've become.
Every AI system of consequence runs on data, processes data, and produces outputs that trigger privacy obligations the moment they touch a hiring decision, a credit file, or a patient record. Lawyers, compliance officers, and regulators working at this intersection need more than a privacy law refresher or an AI ethics primer — they need a working map of both fields together.
The Complete Data Privacy & AI Governance Handbook delivers that map in a single, practitioner-focused volume. Inside, you'll find:
- A comparative breakdown of GDPR, India's DPDP Act, Canada's PIPEDA and Quebec's Law 25, CCPA/CPRA, and eight other major privacy regimes — organized around the questions that actually drive legal risk, not a country-by-country statute dump
- A clear guide to AI governance frameworks including the EU AI Act's risk-tier system, NIST's AI Risk Management Framework, and ISO/IEC 42001 — and how to read them together rather than in isolation
- Step-by-step guidance for building an AI risk and compliance program, including a full worked AI Impact Assessment from start to finish
- AI contract drafting essentials: training-data use clauses, liability allocation for model outputs, and the definitions worth fixing precisely before you sign
- Sector-specific guidance for healthcare, finance, employment, insurance, real estate, and the public sector
- A survey of emerging AI litigation theories and the documentation practices that hold up under scrutiny
- Ready-to-adapt checklists, a full sample AI governance committee charter, policy skeletons, and a risk-tier scoring rubric
- A 90-day roadmap for standing up a governance program from scratch
Written by an Advocate with an LLM in International Commercial Arbitration working at the intersection of AI, law, and cybersecurity, this handbook is built to be read cover to cover in a weekend — and kept within reach as a working desk reference after.
Whether you're a practicing lawyer building AI competence, a compliance officer standing up a governance program, an NCA candidate or internationally trained lawyer building your Canadian legal toolkit, or a law student preparing for where the profession is heading, this is the single volume that gets you fluent across the whole field.
Stop treating privacy law and AI governance as separate subjects. They stopped being separate years ago.
