Paperback. The Complete Chow Chow HandbookA Practical Guide to Raising, Training, and Caring for an Independent, Loyal, and Dignified CompanionThe Chow Chow is one of the world's most distinctive and ancient dog breeds, admired for its lion-like appearance, dense double coat, characteristic blue-black tongue, dignified personality, and deep loyalty to its family. Calm, independent, and naturally reserved, the Chow Chow is unlike many other companion breeds and requires an owner who understands and respects its unique temperament.Originating in China, the Chow Chow has a long history as a versatile working dog used for guarding, hunting, and protecting homes and property. Behind its impressive appearance lies an intelligent, self-assured, and often independent dog that tends to form strong bonds with a small number of trusted people. Chow Chows are not typically eager to please in the same way as many other breeds, making patient training, early socialization, consistency, and mutual trust especially important.Without proper socialization, clear boundaries, and thoughtful handling, Chow Chows can become overly suspicious, territorial, stubborn, or uncomfortable around unfamiliar people and animals. When raised with patience, positive reinforcement, respectful guidance, and consistent routines, however, the Chow Chow can become a calm, loyal, well-mannered, and deeply devoted companion. The Complete Chow Chow Handbook is your complete guide to responsible Chow Chow ownership.
