Vernon Summerlin and Doug Markham have consulted with more than 60 of Tennessee's best fishermen and professional guides with more than 1,000 years of angling knowledge to reveal fishing secrets about all major Tennessee lakes. They will tell you
- Which fish are rated "best" on each lake
- How to locate your favorite fish
- When the fish will bite and when they won't
- Which baits, rigs, and techniques work best in every season
- How to contact professional fishing guides in each region
- Where to get shoreline boundary and topographic maps
"At a Glance" boxes provide information on the available species of game fish, geography, lake-bottom terrain, location, size, and winter and summer pools for each lake. An easy-to-read rating system tells in an instant if your favorite fish swims in a particular lake and how good the fishing for that species is. Includes an easy-to-understand glossary.

From the Author
I didn't realize before "researching" my half of Compleat Tennessee Angler that fish are so easily caught year around.
I rationalized that largemouth, smallmouth, crappie, sauger, bluegill, walleye, stripers, white bass, and catfish disappear into deep and unreachable holes at certain times of the year and only become catchable again when weather conditions suit humans.
Wrong!
What I discovered is that fish don't ever quit eating and that sometimes the best times to pursue them is when most of us are at home bemoaning our most recently concluded fishing season.
The truth is that our angling seasons don't have to end. Most of us either fail to adjust to changing climates or surrender to unfriendly weather conditions. For the sources in this book, years run together to form one happy and endless fishing season.
Compleat Tennessee Angler is a book about freshwater fishing in one of America's most famous fishing states. While it should certainly appeal to anyone who fishes in Tennessee--from beginners to old hats--it should also appeal to freshwater anglers anywhere in the Southeast where freshwater lakes exist.
More than 30 guides are among the more than 60 avid anglers quoted in this book, most all of whom fish year around on their favorite lakes (28 lakes are covered from West To East Tennessee). Some of our sources have local fame (Jimmy Holt, Ralph Dallas, Benny Hull, Billy Joe "Baldy" Hall), some have national fame (Billy Westmorland, Steve McCadams, Tom Richards). All are great anglers who through thousands of hours of fishing have learned the best methods for catching fish in winter, spring, summer, and fall. How they catch fish can be used in lakes all over the country.
Technniques, favored lures, best rigs, where to fish at certain times, and where to locate good maps are among information that fills Compleat Tennessee Angler.
Those who read it will attain quick confidence, which is why this book was written. The authors know too well the difficulty of catching fish in unfamiliar waters.
Large lakes will shrink to manageable sizes, confidence will replace occassional luck, and you'll never have to bemoan a lost season again. Life is great.
