Review
"To me, the value of The Competition is that its analysis goes well beyond the superficial. The authors' insight into Japanese economic, social, political, and cultural processes and how they affect high level policy making is particularly useful...."-William E. Brock, U.S. Trade Representative
"[This book] unravels the macroeconomic and microeconomic elements that have made the Japanese formidable competitors. The study also demonstrates how much the economies of Japan and the United States share, both positive and negative elements, vis-a-vis the changing nature of global economics.... No single work now in print will yield a better understanding of what is happening now, and what in all likelihood will happen in the next few decades, between Japan and the United States as business competitors.... Each chapter deals with crucial topics, but each chapter can stand alone."-The Wall Street Review of Books

?An up-to-date account of how the Japanese economy works, and of how structural transformations there will have an impact on Japan's trading partners. The interesting feature of this particular work is its persuasive use of examples to support the authors' various hypotheses. In this way readers can judge for themselves the validity of the hypotheses, something that is not usually possible in other works on Japan which tend to rely on unsubstantialized generalizations.... This book is a well-researched thought-provoking look at Japan, one that will be especially useful for political scientists and strategic analysts wishing to learn more about the business and economic systems of the major U.S. ally in the Pacific region.?-Orbis

Store description
The Enigmatic Reader is the unexpected outcome of years of book collecting. After filling up the house to an extreme, (the attic was on the brink of collapse) we decided we had no choice but to share the riches. Luckily about this time the internet became a great place to connect book-buyers with book-sellers. We have really enjoyed the opportunity to connect people with the books they are looking for. Let us know your interests and we will try to find a book to match them. If you find a book on our list that you really want but you can't afford it, let us know - maybe we can work something out. Our descriptions are not too detailed, but we do try to describe the basics and point out any major flaws.…
