Item description from seller
Language: English. About The Book: A Compendious Grammar of the Primitive English or Anglo-Saxon Language by Joseph Bosworth is a concise yet comprehensive guide to the structure and principles of Old English. Designed for modern English grammarians, it emphasizes the importance of Anglo-Saxon as the foundation of modern English vocabulary and syntax. Drawing from his earlier Elements of the Anglo-Saxon Grammar, Bosworth refines key linguistic insights, offering practical explanations, examples, and comparative analyses to help readers understand the true origins and idiomatic development of English. About The Author: Joseph Bosworth (1788–1876) was an English philologist and scholar renowned for his pioneering work in Anglo-Saxon studies. Educated at Cambridge, he became Professor of Anglo-Saxon at Oxford. His most significant achievement is the Anglo-Saxon Dictionary (1838), later expanded into An Anglo-Saxon Dictionary (1898) with T. Northcote Toller, which remains a foundational resource in Old English scholarship. Bosworth’s work greatly advanced the study of early English language, literature, and history, establishing him as a key figure in philological research.
