No Stock Photos! We photograph every item. Very Good in a Very Good dust jacket with light edge wear. Anthology of twenty-one dog stories by contemporary writers, with illustrations by Charles Barsotti, 336 pages. Of all the beasts of the kingdom, we cherish the dog as loyal companion. Past literature, however, has portrayed the noble canine with patronizing sentimentality--as Diligent Worker, Loyal Hero, or Silent Sidekick. Now, "The Company of Dogs" explores the valued companionship we share with dogs. Filled with humor, compassion, and wry understanding, these stories reveal an important truth: our dogs know us better than we know ourselves. With deep appreciation of the age-old bond between dogs and their people, "The Company of Dogs" is a rich celebration: a lasting tribute to dogs, a necessary addition to every dog lover's library, and--because profits from the book will aid dog welfare agencies--a most meaningful gift. Every dog "does" have its day.
