Yet today, in most denominations, Communion has been relegated to a once-in-a-while status, tacked on to our church services, at times almost like a awkward appendage. While the reformers of the sixteenth century got a lot right, they threw the baby out with the bath water regarding Communion.
The intention of this book is to reclaim and re-establish Communion in the place of prominence it deserves within the Protestant expression of Christianity. Nonetheless, Catholic and Orthodox denominations will also find this book a challenging read, expanding their understanding.
Starting from its roots in the celebration of Passover, Peter takes the reader on a journey through the Bible, highlighting links to Communion the reader is unlikely to have considered.
Yet this book is fundamentally about the practical application of Communion in the life of the believer. Peter and Heather have an international counselling practise, where the healing of physical and mental problems are commonplace.
Based on more than 40 000 hours of clinical counselling, the importance of Communion in establishing and maintaining the healing God wants for his people cannot be over emphasized. This is not a book of theory. This is a book that will encourage the reader to embrace an intimacy with Jesus and the hope of healing they are unlikely to have previously considered.
