This item is printed on demand - it takes 3-4 days longer - Neuware -Mass media have increasingly become central to the activities of every society in all types of governance, particularly in developing nations with infantile democracy and undesirable socioeconomic conditions. The media s role and journalistic practices, however, may vary from place to place due to a number of determining factors. This book provides valuable findings related to the principle and practices of communication for development and democratization and the challenges facing journalists in discharging their professional responsibility. It reveals the disparity between theory and practices, claims and reality in using the media for promoting development and democratization and brings to light the polarized perception of journalism and journalistic practices with varying media ownership in a given context. 288 pp. Englisch.
