Technical knowledge helps you evaluate damage. Communication determines whether people trust the process.
A roof collapses after a storm. A policyholder calls in tears after a denial letter. A contractor challenges your scope line by line. Another surge file lands before you have finished the last one. These are not hypotheticals. They are your Tuesday.
In every one of those moments, something is being decided — not just about the claim, but about you. Your tone sets the room. Your clarity determines whether confusion grows or dissolves. Your presence determines whether a conversation stabilizes or escalates. The most effective adjusters understand that every interaction carries influence — and they use it with intention.
Communicate, Connect, and Lead was written for the adjuster ready to make that shift.
Award-winning author and creator of the Efficient Adjuster™ brand Dr. Karissa Thomas blends vivid field stories with practical tools to elevate communication, presence, and leadership across every type of claims interaction — from the first notice of loss to the most difficult denial conversation.
What You Will Learn
- Build instant rapport with policyholders, contractors, and carriers — even in tense, emotional, or adversarial conversations
- Translate complex coverage and scope issues into clear, confident language that reduces conflict and builds understanding
- Navigate emotionally charged claims with empathy, boundaries, and professional steadiness
- Write documentation and emails that protect you legally, professionally, and reputationally
- Lead micro-conversations that inspire trust, calm, and forward movement
- Protect your own well-being so you can sustain high performance across a long career in a high-pressure field
This Is Not Just About What You Say
It is about who you become in every conversation. The shift this book develops is not a communication technique. It is a professional identity — from adjuster who processes claims to leader who guides people through the hardest moments of their year with clarity, steadiness, and care.
When you communicate clearly, confusion decreases. When you connect authentically, resistance softens. When you lead calmly, situations stabilize. Files will always surge. Expectations will keep rising. Emotionally charged conversations will not stop coming. But the adjusters who stand out are not the ones who process claims fastest. They are the ones who bring professionalism to every interaction — regardless of the pressure around it.
Leadership in this role does not require a title. It shows up in tone, patience, and consistency. It appears in how you explain coverage, manage expectations, and guide a conversation forward when everything in the room is pulling it sideways.
Every call is an opportunity. Every conversation is influenced. Every claim is a chance to lead.
Communicate clearly. Connect intentionally. Lead consistently. This is the new standard for insurance adjusters.
