English The book is an academic edited volume that brings together a series of contributions examining communal conflicts in Indonesia, with a particular focus on ethnic and religious tensions during the period surrounding the political reforms of the late 1990s and early 2000s. It discusses how these conflicts emerged and developed in different regional contexts, analyzing underlying social, political, and institutional factors such as state transformation, decentralization processes, and changes in governance. The chapters are based on scholarly discussions and workshop presentations, combining empirical observations with analytical perspectives to better understand the causes of inter-communal violence as well as possible approaches to conflict resolution, social stability, and reconciliation within a changing Indonesian society.
