Description: This edition lacks the maps found in earlier printings. This commentary provides critical and explanatory notes on the Scriptures along the following lines: 1) Explanation of historical references. 2) Quotation of illuminating passages from the Apocrypha or early Christian Writings. 3) Citation of related passages in other parts of the Bible. 4) Description of an ancient custom or legal practice referred to. 5) Explanation of a term or phrase unfamiliar to a modern reader. 6) Mention of contrasting interpretations to obscure lines. 7) Analysis of a chain of thought as it progresses through a section. 8) Clearer renditions of the original text. 9) Statement to the effects of certain passages in subsequent history or church ritual. The comments are based on scholarship and unprejudiced judgment; in matters where authorities differ, the writers have not attempted to bias the readers. In addition to the running commentary, there is an introduction for each book of The Bible. BINDING/CONDITION: green cloth with gilt spine text; the green is faded to blue along the very top portion of the front board; a Very Good book, with a Very Good dust jacket; publisher's price on the jacket flap is intact. 8vo (about 9.5 inches tall). 1091 pages. …
