Print on Demand. This book is an exposition of a portion of the New Testament's letter to the Ephesians. The author presents a verse-by-verse commentary on the first chapter of the Epistle, focusing on the depth of God's love and the scope and moral force of His word. In the process, the commentary articulates a profound exposition of the scheme of mercy through Jesus Christ, linking it to the general scheme of mercy extended to the Gentiles. Emphasizing that the salvation thus provided is by grace alone, the author explores the nature of true sainthood. The book is written for intelligent, experienced Christians who earnestly seek truth and are willing to study the Lively Oracles. While the author acknowledges that much good instruction is available, they nevertheless believe that in the present era, as at almost no other in history, the nourishment of the inner man is paramount. Equipping the laity for service through a deep understanding of the way of Christ is essential to fulfilling the Great Commission. Through a combination of exegesis, explication, and practical application, the book achieves this goal, offering insights that help readers gain a deeper relationship with God. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book.…

The motive for selecting this portion of the word of God for commem tary has been, that in no equally limited portion are so plainly expressed or significantly interwoven, the three essential elements of religion doc trine, experience, and practical duties. The work is not designed for the learned. Nor is this the great need of the church at this day. That there is, in fact, an excess offitlfistgind of instruction, we have no idea. But there is relatively. Thegreat want of the church, at this period of her his tory.and efforts, is the iurishment of the inner man the illumination of the -y a clear andrich acquaintance, not with verbal or historical criticism', but with the scope and moral force of the word of God. How' ever imperfectly the means of this are furnished in these notes, of their imperfections no reader can be more sensible than the writer himself, an honest and somewhat laborious effort has been made to instruct the plain Christian, who hungers for the bread of life, and to inspire him with a stronger desire for it. The eye of the writer has been kept steadily on one class of readers - intelligent, experienced Christians.
