Print on Demand. This book delves into the history of the American banking system, with a particular focus on the rise and fall of the first and second United States Banks. The author argues that these institutions, modeled after the Bank of England, concentrated immense power in the hands of a select few, enabling them to manipulate the nation's economy and exert undue influence on its political landscape. Through a detailed examination of historical events, including the bank war during Andrew Jackson's presidency, the author exposes the dangers of delegating control over the nation's currency to private entities. The book highlights the struggles between the proponents of a centralized banking system and those who advocated for a decentralized system based on government-issued currency. This historical narrative raises crucial questions about the relationship between economic power and political influence, exposing the potential for abuse when financial institutions wield excessive control. Ultimately, the book serves as a stark reminder of the importance of safeguarding democratic principles and ensuring that economic power remains accountable to the people. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book.…

In this volume the author endeavors to give an accurate history of the present National Bank System of currency, including an account of the first United States Bank, - both of which were borrowed from Great Britain by those statesmen who, like the father of Sir Robert Peel, believed that a national debt was the source of prosperity.
It is believed that the facts adduced in the following pages will be productive of some good, in pointing out the immense evils lurking in that system of banking, - a system which has produced panics at will, and which is the active abettor of the stock gamblers, rail road wreckers, and those industrial tyrants of modern times, the enormously overcapitalized and oppressive trusts.
It is sought to point out the great dangers of delegat ing purely government powers to these greedy monopo lists, by which they are enabled to organize a money trust, far more tyrannical than all the other combina tions now in existence; and by which they absolutely defy the authority that endowed them with corporate life.
