[i]-xviii, [1]-320 pp.; [1]-304 pp., illustrated with 20 steel-engraved, colored plates (plate: King John Signing Magna Charta, at p. 112 in volume one, shows a 2 inch crease to the lower right margin; plate: Embarkation of King Henry the Fifth at Southampton, at p. 226 in volume one shows a three inch long by half-inch, V-shaped section of the plate torn away from the fore-edge, and affecting the image), and in-text wood engravings. Dark green cloth with elaborate gilt designs and titling on the spine, including three John Leech figures, and the Leech figure of Clio and the British Lion, gilt on the front cover, and blindstamped borders around the covers; all edges gilt; the cream-colored paper endpapers appear to be replaced at some point.
