Full title: An ephemeris in jest and earnest, containing merry tales, humorous poetry. quips and oddities. Writers include Thackeray 'with many hundred illustrations (b/w) by George Cruckshank and other artists.' Bottle green cloth boards with gilt lettering and comic motifs on the front cover and along the spine. Condition: in a generally sound condition but a bit battered in places with some closed tears at the head and tail of the spine, bent corners and occasional fading/marking of the cloth. The binding is a little loose in places and occasionally some of the book's binding material is visible on close inspection. Tissue guard on frontispiece is torn, loose but still attached (images). The pages are moderately tanned with occasional spotting; more evident on the preliminary and final ones. The text and many illustrations, while not unaffected, remain clean and crisp (images). Uncut edges. pp. 388 + many pages (unpaginated) of 'Very Important New Books.' 8o, NB no specific publication date; merely the reference to !st Series, 1835-1843.
