He is perhaps best known for breathing new life into houses with a sympathy that is rooted in a deep understanding of their past, a particular skill that few interior designers possess. He can see where details are missing and unravel a mishmash of periods accumulated over centuries in a historical house. In this, his first book, Bulmer compiles the best from thirty years of work in some of Britain s most famous and grandest homes, including Castle Howard, Broughton Hall, Althorp, Goodwood, Pitshill, and many others. It also includes his work for private clients, highlighting his own stunning home, a laboratory for his practice, in a Queen Anne manor house built in 1700, which Bulmer and his family have spent the last twenty years renovating into a comfortable, practical home perfect for a modern lifestyle. He operates his paint company out of an old granary on the property that he converted into a studio. Bulmer has also revived the farm and turned it into a working organic farm. Written by Bulmer and featuring seventeen houses, among other projects, Bulmer takes readers through his creative and working process in each project, describing in detail how he renovated, decorated, and preserved the home, the problems he encountered and the decisions he and his clients made to solve them, all while sharing tips and secrets that readers can take away for their own home. Tours of these well-lived-in houses, rich with history, are conveyed through the gorgeous photography of Paul Whitbread. In his first book, leading interior designer Edward Bulmer takes his readers on in-depth tours of his renovations and preservation of centuries-old homes across England into comfortable homes designed for modern living. The spotlight is on Bulmer's own gorgeous 320-year-old home, a laboratory for his practice, including a canvas for testing new colours for his popular line of natural paints. Shipping may be from multiple locations in the US or from the UK, depending on stock availability.

Interior designer Edward Bulmer breathes new life into centuries-old houses with a sympathy that is rooted in a deep understanding of the past, transforming them into comfortable homes designed for modern living.
Edward Bulmer is part of a new generation of designers working on historical houses with an eye on designs that appeal to contemporary families and active lifestyles while at the same time respecting the classical traditions that have made the British country house style so popular today. With a modern eye, Bulmer combines his love for the well-worn and timeless with natural textures as well as rich new color palettes and finishes, as embodied by his line of all-natural, toxic-free paints that embrace both traditional and eclectic tastes.
In his first book, Bulmer takes readers on in-depth tours of his work in some of Britain’s grandest homes, including Althorp, Goodwood, Pitshill House, and Broughton Hall, along with his work for private clients, highlighting his own stunning home, a Queen Anne manor house built in 1700. Bulmer and his family have spent the last twenty years turning this country farmhouse into a comfortable, practical home—with a working organic farm—that perfectly accommodates the demands of contemporary living. It has become a laboratory for his design practice and is also the base for his paint company, which he operates out of an old granary converted into a studio.
