She told Tajen Jesmuhr's early story in her first novel, Some of My Best Friends Are Human. In a second novel, My New Best Friend is an Alien, she detailed Taje's further adventures as an interplanetary veterinary student. And several stories featured Dr. Jesmuhr in Analog Science Fiction and Science Fact. She has also edited and published her grandfather's semi-autobiographical novel, Along the Margins: South Dakota Immigrant Homesteaders. Writing runs in the family.
