Folded (as issued) color lithographic map from Wheeler's Geographical Surveys West of the One Hundredth Meridian, Topographical Atlas. Expeditions of 1874 and 1875. Undated but c.1876. Map size: 19 3/4 x 15 inches (neatlines) on sheet 24 x 19 inches. Scale: 1 inch = 2 miles. Topography is shown in contour relief (above treeline in orange, below treeline in green) with the steepest topography shown using black hachures. Beautifully drawn map of the famous San Juan Mining Region, including the towns of Silverton, Lake City, Howardsville, Eureka and Mineral City. The uppermost portion of the San Miguel River is named Gold Run, however town of Telluride is not yet shown, nor is the town of Ouray further to the east. In addition to topography and drainage structure, the map shows important wagon roads, trails, springs, mines, etc. *** Condition: Clean and bright with only a short edge tear near the upper right corner.
