Rain glossed the evening streets like polished obsidian when Dipan first saw Sabita.
She stood beneath a yellow streetlamp outside an art gallery, holding a canvas wrapped in brown paper. Her hair was damp from the monsoon, and her eyes carried a quiet storm.
Inside the gallery hung a painting titled “The Color of Bleeding Love.”
It was not simply red.
It was crimson, rust, wine, and scarlet layered together like wounded memories.
Dipan stared at the canvas.
“Why bleeding?” he asked.
Sabita smiled faintly. “Because real love never leaves without leaving a color behind.”
Chapter 2 – The Painter of Hidden WoundsSabita believed every human heart had a color.
Joy was gold.
Fear was pale grey.
Loneliness was blue.
But love…
Dipan began visiting the gallery every evening. At first, to observe the paintings. Then, to observe the painter.
Chapter 3 – Equations of the HeartDipan tried to analyze his growing attachment like a scientific problem.
Attraction + proximity + emotional resonance = affection.
Arjun watched the transformation with silent unease.
“You’ve changed,” he told Dipan over coffee.
“Maybe,” Dipan replied.
“Or maybe you’ve just met someone who rearranged your universe.”
Chapter 4 – The Shadow of JealousyArjun had always been Dipan’s closest friend.
But when he met Sabita, something unexpected stirred inside him.
“There’s a storm around your friend,” she told Dipan.
Dipan laughed.
“He’s harmless.”
Chapter 5 – A Portrait of LoveSabita painted Dipan for the first time.
But she didn’t paint his face.
Instead, she painted a fractured mirror reflecting different versions of him.
Scientist.
Dreamer.
Lover.
Lost soul.
When Dipan saw the painting, he whispered:
“Is this how you see me?”
“No.”
“It’s how love sees you.”
Chapter 6 – The Night of ConfessionOne autumn night beneath a sky scattered with stars, Dipan finally spoke.
“I think I love you.” Sabita did not answer immediately. Instead she asked:
“Do you love me the way a scientist loves a discovery?”
“Or the way a heart loves its wound?”
Chapter 7 – When Love Begins to BleedArjun’s jealousy sharpened into something dangerous.
He began whispering doubts. To Dipan. To Sabita. To everyone.
Love, like glass, cracks easily when suspicion taps its surface. Maya warned Sabita.
“Trust is fragile.” Sabita looked at her unfinished painting.
Chapter 8 – The CollapseRumors spread. Misunderstandings multiplied. Dipan believed Sabita had betrayed him. Sabita believed Dipan had stopped trusting her. Their love did not shatter instantly.
Chapter 9 – The Psychology of PainDr. Aritra Bose observed Dipan during a lecture on human emotion.
“You analyze love like physics,” he said.
“But love behaves more like chaos theory.”
“One small misunderstanding…”
“…and everything changes.”
Dipan finally realized the truth.
Chapter 10 – The Painting That SpokeMonths later, Sabita completed her final masterpiece. It was the largest painting she had ever created.
A heart dissolving into rivers of red, merging into the horizon. At the corner of the canvas she wrote:
“Love does not die.
It transforms into color.”
Dipan searched for Sabita across the city. Through galleries. Through memories. Through regret. When he finally found her, she was painting by a river at sunset. “I was wrong,” he said quietly. Sabita looked at the sky. “What color is love now?”
Chapter 12 – The Color That RemainsYears later, Sabita’s painting became famous. People debated its meaning. Some said it represented heartbreak. Others believed it symbolized eternal love.
