A section of fundamentals covers molecular genetics, the structure and function of genes, chromosomes, and other basics. A section on genetics and medicine emphasizes the increasing role of genetics in the understanding of normal and abnormal biological functions, with many examples of human diseases. Other sections present the basic organization of genome in bacteria and higher organisms as a science in its own right, and the development of genetics. Definitions of genetic terms, maps of human genetic diseases, and references are included.
This book is addressed to students of premedical and medical science, professionals in the health sciences, biologists, and other individuals wishing to obtain an overview of this important biomedical field.
