Paperback. A disastrous proposal. A desperate escape. A collision that changes everything. Mr Fitzwilliam Darcy has just endured the most devastating character assassination of his life. So, he does what any rational gentleman would do: he packs his trunks before dawn and flees Kent to nurse his wounded pride. Miss Elizabeth Bennet, desperate to escape the very man she loathes, hires a rickety chaise to secretly return to London. But the universe has a malicious sense of humour. When the two vehicles violently collide on a flooded country lane, Elizabeth is forced to invade Darcy's luxurious conveyance to avoid drowning in a ditch-armed with nothing but her righteous fury and a wicker basket of highly pungent farmhouse cheddar and a leg of roasted chicken. Trapped together unchaperoned, the threat of complete social ruin forces Darcy to propose marriage a second time. But as they weather a leaky roof, rumbling stomachs, and the loud arrival of Mr Collins to their rescue, the forced proximity strips away their pride and prejudices, threatening to unravel Elizabeth's resolve entirely.
