First U.S. edition, 2nd or later printing, hardcover, bound in blue cloth with black and silver lettering on spine, is in G+ condition, having some fading to spine and edges of front and back covers; spine bottom has some light fraying; tiny blemish on back (can't quite make out what it is: a tiny speck of candle-grease?); pages have normal age-toning. This copy belonged to noted film composer DAVID RAKSIN, and bears his book stamp on first free endpaper. Illustrated with b&w frontispiece photograph of Thomas. Ahearn states that the very first U.S. edition of the book has the misspelled word "daughter" on p. 199, which this copy does not, so we deduce its a second or later printing of the first U.S. edition.
