Karol Borsuk (1905-1982) was a notable Polish mathematician renowned for his contributions to topology, alongside significant results in functional analysis. His profound ideas and the depth of the problems he tackled served as a wellspring of inspiration for research both in Poland and abroad for decades. This selection of his works, curated by the author in 1980, comprises the most significant papers reflecting Borsuk's diverse interests. The topics covered include Cartesian and symmetric products, extending maps, fixed and antipodal points, functional spaces and their applications, metric properties, polyhedra, spaces satisfying special conditions, the theory of position, retracts, and the theory of shape. Preceding the papers is a biographical article providing insights into Borsuk's life, a comprehensive survey of his scientific contributions, and a complete list of his publications.
