COLLABORATIVE FOREST MANAGEMENT IN DEVELOPING COUTRIES In the past two decades many countries have been promoting forest conservation without involving the communities dependent on the surrounding forests for their survival. With the increasing population and climate change in the world today , the demands placed on the remaining forests will continue to grow. However there is little academic literature available on the importance of the local communities in the conservation of forest resources. This book would like to answer the following development questions: ? Can the concept of collaborative forest management be implemented in the poor communities in developing countries? ? What roles can the local people play if they are involved? ? What are the social, economic and policy issues affecting community participation? ? What lessons can be learned from the success stories of collaborative forest management? This book gives concrete examples on the realities of the dilemma between conservation and community development and it contains relevant information for natural and social science students in colleges and Universities, Policy makers and community development workers.
