Produced in association with the New York Public Library and IMEC, the French foundation that holds the archives from which this book is drawn, Collaboration and Resistance provides a fresh and fascinating view into the behavior of French writers under the Nazi occupation, from those who collaborated to those who gave their lives to resist. With more than five hundred illustrations, including photographs, diaries, letters, official documents, manuscripts, and pamphlets, no other book offers such a sweeping overview of the decisions that both prominent and little-known writers and editors made during this period. With an unpublished 1946 text by Jean-Paul Sartre.
