Leather. Condition: Very Good. 32mo - over 4 - 5" tall. Text in Latin. Lyon, 1561. Jean de Tournes. 32mo., 787, (40)pp., with wood cut title page. Bound in 17th century (or earlier) full calf, with later end papers and paste downs. 5 compartment spine with raised bands, simple gilt floral design in each. Boards ruled in blind and gilt; decorative oval design in gilt on both boards. a.e.g. The title page is bordered with a wood cut scroll work design. Boards are mildly worn, with a small crease in the center of the spine. Text is remarkable clean and bright. A beautiful book, with a warm, supple feel. *** Included in this works of Lactantius are: "The Divine Institutes", a treatise intended to point out the futility of pagan beliefs; "On the Wrath of God", a treatise directed at the Stoics; "The Works of God", written during Diocletian's persecutions; and the poem"Pheonix".
