Monte Carlo, 1933. The champagne is flowing, the fortunes are staggering—and someone has just committed the perfect murder.
Private inquiry agent Vivienne “Vee” Marchand has been hired to prove that a dead millionaire’s final codicil was forged. The document disinherits his children, rewards his beautiful companion, and places a fortune in the hands of men who may have every reason to lie.
Then the one solicitor who could expose the truth is found dead inside his locked and chained hotel suite.
The police call it heart failure. Vee calls it extraordinarily convenient.
Moving through the glittering ballrooms, shadowed corridors, and high-stakes gaming tables of Monte Carlo, Vee finds no shortage of suspects: a furious son, an evasive valet, a grieving mistress, and a charming young solicitor with secrets of his own. Every one of them is hiding something. Only one has discovered how to kill a man in a room no one could enter.
With a fortune at stake and a murderer watching her every move, Vee must unravel the forged signatures, hidden passage, and carefully manufactured alibis before the truth disappears along with the Riviera season.
Because at the Hôtel Splendide, appearances are everything—and the most elegant lies are often the deadliest.
The Codicil at the Splendide is a glamorous, sharply paced locked-room mystery featuring an irresistibly clever heroine, sophisticated intrigue, and a puzzle that rewards every careful reader.
