The Codex Gigas — known globally as the Devil’s Bible — remains the largest handwritten manuscript in the history of the world. For centuries it has provoked legend, fear, and speculation. Now, for the first time, its creation, purpose, contents, missing history, and hidden meaning are revealed in one authoritative volume.
Codex Gigas: Devil’s Bible Revelation and the Secrets It Has Guarded for Centuries
by Marcus V. Rothwell
This is not sensationalism. This is evidence.
Drawing on archival research at the National Library of Sweden, Bohemian monastic records, paleographic analysis, binding forensics, and historical eyewitness accounts, this book peels away centuries of legend to expose the truth behind the most mysterious manuscript ever created.
Inside these pages, you will discover:
• How a single monk sustained decades of relentless writing and craftsmanship.
• Why the Codex includes the entire Latin Vulgate alongside medicine, exorcisms, penance tables, and royal chronicles.
• Why the full-page portrait of the Devil faces the Heavenly City — and what that placement truly means.
• How the manuscript became a war seizure during the Thirty Years War and disappeared into Swedish royal custody.
• How modern science — UV imaging, DNA and parchment analysis, pigment forensics — finally reveals what really happened.
Every chapter is enriched with visuals: manuscript facsimiles, binding diagrams, historical illustrations, layout architecture, and page analysis that place you beside the scribe who created the Codex.
The Codex Gigas is not an object of dark worship. It is a monument of discipline, faith, and intellectual power — a cathedral made of parchment. You will never look at medieval knowledge the same way again.
