Which direction do you turn when haunted by the past?
The night sky on the Friland Islands in the North Sea blazes with fire. On the beach, cameras zoom in on the burning effigy atop the raft. The opening of the summer festival is about to be etched into memory, not with joy, but with horror. The event is being livestreamed as the fire warden signals the start of the fireworks. A scream cuts through the crowd. Someone breaks away, shouting and pointing as the effigy begins to flail its arms - and another scream echoes across the still waters, this time from the effigy.Fifteen years after baby Kelly was taken from her stroller and found murdered on a desolate beach, the cold case has been reignited. With the help of groundbreaking genetic genealogy, the team is closer than ever to uncovering a DNA match and exposing the killer who thought they had got away. Could there be a connection to the burning effigy?
Forensic Technician Moa Bakke and Detective Inspector Fredrik Dal are already on the scene, unwitting witnesses to one of the most gruesome crimes the once-peaceful islands have ever seen. In the days that follow, they’ll be forced to question where their loyalties lie while the ghosts of the past refuse to stay buried.
Set on a fictional group of Swedish islands in the North Sea, this police procedural immerses you in a chilling Nordic noir experience. The books in the Friland Murders series can be read as standalones.
