197 pp., index, bibliography. Bioethics deals with scientific and medical practices that make people uneasy. Can human reproductive cloning be allowed? should citizens be made aware of the genetic mutations they carry? Do parents have aright to choose their children's qualities? The intuitions people have on these and similar issues are bound to vary. Philosophical bioethics studies the conceptual dimensions of these questions. In this collection of essays, the author studies the views and notions that form the basis of emotional, social, and legal responses to cloning, genetic selection, and other topical advances in biomedical sciences and health care provision. Particular attention is given to the idea of autonomy, dignity, precaution, and solidarity. 0.0.
