You are not imagining it. The room really is harder for you.
You prepared. You spoke clearly. Your idea was solid. Someone even said "great point." And somehow the decision still drifted, the credit blurred, and by the time the follow-up landed in your inbox, the idea no longer felt like yours.
Then comes the walk back to your desk. Should I have spoken sooner? Been firmer? Smiled less? Smiled more?
If you know that walk, stop. The problem was never you.
You were told that if you were good enough, prepared enough, capable enough, you would be recognised. So you worked harder and became excellent. And still you are listened to but not followed, praised but not promoted, included but not influential.
Here's the dirty truth. Competence is not the currency of power. Underneath every meeting, something older is running. We read status and authority in seconds, and in male-dominated rooms those instincts get read against you. Speak with force and you are "difficult." A man says the same thing and he is "decisive."
The Cleopatra Effect does not ask you to fix yourself. It hands you the rules of the room that no one says out loud.
Cleopatra did not rule by out-shouting anyone. She read the room, shaped how she was seen, and designed moments in which her leadership felt inevitable. Caesar charged. Cleopatra arranged the room. This book teaches that quieter, far more durable kind of power.
Built on behavioural science, evolutionary psychology, and thousands of real conversations with women in real rooms, it shows you how status and authority are signalled, how influence actually moves through a group, and how to lead with a calm confidence you never have to fake, because it fits exactly who you already are.
No armour. No mimicry. No army boots.
Stop asking "what is wrong with me." Start asking "what is this room responding to."
If you are done being the most prepared person in the room and the least followed, your first chapter starts here.
