Clause & Effect
A Cozy Romance Wrapped in Magic
Eight years ago, Tex Moran was an overwhelmed grad student trying to balance sorcery theory, candle-lit exams, and a professor who seemed engineered in a lab to be brilliant, intimidating, and annoyingly unforgettable. In a moment of frustration, Tex muttered one careless sentence-a vow she didn't realize was, in fact, magically binding.
Now she's thirty-one, exhausted, and trying to convince herself she's perfectly fine with her solo life, thank you very much. Then a thunderstorm cracks open her Thursday night, and Morgan Vale-professor, witch, and walking embodiment of Tex's unresolved issues-appears on her doorstep with a contract that's glowing like a smug firefly.
"Alexandra Xanthe Moran," Morgan says, crisp as ever, "you owe me a child."
Not that kind of child-at least, not necessarily. The universe, being unhelpfully literal and aggressively broad in its interpretations, decided Tex and Morgan had unfinished business-and Morgan has been charged with facilitating its completion.
Tex wants answers.
Morgan brings documentation.
The universe provides commentary in the form of sparks, thunderstorms, and impeccably timed complications.
And the contract doesn't expire until the obligation is fulfilled.
What follows isn't spellcraft so much as cosmic bureaucracy with feelings. Every attempt to meet the terms drags them closer together-late-night arguments, accidental intimacy, conversations that veer toward confessions, and a bond that keeps flaring no matter how hard they try to frame this as "purely procedural."
Tex begins to suspect the universe is engineering these moments.
Morgan begins to suspect her professionalism is losing a battle she never meant to fight.
And both realize that "shared creation" may not mean producing anything magical at all-it might mean acknowledging the connection that's been simmering beneath their history.
Clause & Effect is a cozy sapphic romance wrapped in candlelight, starlight, and gentle magic. It's about unexpected second chances, the trouble with careless vows, and the way life sometimes hands you the person you least expect-along with a contract you never saw coming.
Perfect for readers who enjoy:
- Cozy queer romance
- Soft contemporary fantasy
- Slow-burn sapphic tension
- Witches, spellcraft, and low-stakes magic
- Warmth, wit, and a dash of cosmic meddling
Sometimes the universe writes the spell.
Sometimes it waits.
And sometimes... it gives you one last nudge toward the right person.
