Clark's Tangible Shorthand Self-Instructor explains how to move beyond conventional spelling to capture the sounds heard in speech. Structured lessons and practical drills aim to build speed, accuracy, and transfer to real-world tasks such as dictation, typewriter practice, and general shorthand work. The book blends theory with hands-on exercises, including story-linked word groups and repeated practice to reinforce the outlines and strokes.
- Learn about the 100-character system, including 15 vowel characters and the division into single consonant and vowel symbols.
- Follow step-by-step lessons that build from outline strokes to full-speed copy-plate writing.
- Practice with stories and word lists designed to reinforce sound-by-sound transcription.
- Apply the method to spelling, dictation, and typewriter practice for practical use.
Ideal for readers seeking a historical approach to phonetic shorthand and practical, hands-on instruction in a self-contained system of writing.
