About the Authors:
Introducing Jazmyn Jones, a radiant force hailing from Lafayette, Louisiana. With an unwavering Christian faith and a love for dance, she has pursued her dreams with determination and achieved nationwide recognition. After graduating from Howard University and teaching science, Jazmyn now works as a Community and Family Engagement Coordinator for a local nonprofit, enriching thelives of Acadiana's youth and families. Alongside co-creating The Creole Nutcracker and co-founding Heritage Parc, Jazmyn has made an indelible mark on Lafayette's cultural scene. As a dance instructor at F.I.R.E. Expressions, she is dedicated to empowering the next generation and inspiring her community to reach new heights. Despite her many accomplishments, her greatest joys come from being a devoted wife and mother of three boys. In her debut children's book, Jazmyn captures the heart and soul of Louisiana's captivating spirit, sparking imaginations and creating treasured memories that will last a lifetime.
A Louisiana-based artist, Leigha Porter, M.Ed, is the founder and artistic director of F.I.R.E. Expressions Performing Arts Conservatory; Co-Creator of The Creole Nutcracker, a southern reimagining of the classic Christmas tale and theater production; as well as incubator and owner of PARC Village, a community arts center and collective space supplying resources and empowering creatives of color.Ms. Porter continues to serve as an arts advocate, arts administrator, movement artist, and cultural architect for the North side of Lafayette-a historically black, economically and culturally under-served community. She is the recipient of numerous awards and honors including the Delta Women in Business Award, Grand Canyon University spotlight, and a featured story in Kreol International Magazine. She spends her time traveling the country teaching master classes and workshops. Leigha has earned a reputation among her peers and colleagues as one who challenges perceptions about how to effectively engage and educate the next generation of artists and entrepreneurs of color. She feels a sense of accomplishment when she is able to help communities expand their minds and capacity through the use of artistic discipline. She is an arts advocate, ensuring both kids and adults alike are exposed to its various forms. Leigha hopes to continue to fulfill her mission of celebrating and preserving Black and Creole heritage through an artistic and creative lens.
