The journey begins with an introduction to civil engineering, its history, and the essential scientific and mathematical foundations required for engineering studies. Readers are then introduced to engineering mechanics, engineering graphics, and basic electrical and electronics concepts that support multidisciplinary engineering knowledge.
The book continues with detailed coverage of structural and construction engineering topics, including strength of materials, fluid mechanics, hydraulics, concrete technology, reinforced cement concrete (RCC), steel structures, prestressed concrete, estimation and costing, and construction planning and management. These chapters explain important concepts, design principles, material behavior, and construction practices used in modern infrastructure projects.
Recognizing the rapid evolution of the engineering profession, the book also explores green building practices, sustainable construction, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Remote Sensing, and Building Information Modeling (BIM). These technologies are transforming the way engineers plan, design, construct, and maintain infrastructure while improving efficiency, safety, and environmental responsibility.
A dedicated chapter introduces the major project process, helping readers understand project planning, execution, documentation, teamwork, and practical problem-solving. The final chapter discusses the future scope of civil engineering, highlighting innovations such as smart cities, digital construction, automation, artificial intelligence, advanced materials, and resilient infrastructure.
