Seven Cities of Mars — Book One
By Brian Keith Anderson
Beneath the Martian ice, where silence once ruled and time itself seemed to stand still, something begins to awaken.
The first city has heard the call.
Born from the restoration of the Bog of Patience, the City of Enduring Light does not rise with force or fire—it endures. Its awakening is slow, deliberate, and unwavering, guided by a truth long forgotten: life does not begin in movement but in stillness.
Asa and Saxifraga descend beneath the surface, following a resonance that cannot be seen, only felt. What they find is not ruin, but presence—an ancient city alive in ways neither fully understands.
Here, nothing responds to urgency.
Nothing yields to control.
The city waits.
To enter, Asa must face the one thing he has spent a lifetime avoiding: the need to act. In a place where patience is not passive but alive, he begins to learn that true strength is not found in doing but in allowing.
Deep within the city, the Enduring Ones—an ancient race aligned with patience—begin to stir. They are not gone. They have simply remained, holding the city in quiet continuity, waiting for a moment when life would return not through force, but through harmony.
As systems slowly come online and the first currents of life begin to move again, Asa realizes something greater is unfolding:
This is not just the return of a city.
It is the beginning of a new way of being.
The City of Enduring Light does not open its gates.
It invites understanding.
And for those who can remain long enough to listen, it offers a truth that will shape everything that follows:
Endurance is not resistance.
It is alignment with life itself.
