Neuware - 'The Cipher of Roger Bacon' explores the enigmatic and complex world of the 13th-century polymath Roger Bacon, focusing specifically on his alleged use of secret codes and ciphers to protect his revolutionary scientific findings. Edited by Roland Grubb Kent, this scholarly work delves into the fascinating intersections of medieval philosophy, experimental science, and the art of cryptography. The text examines historical claims regarding Bacon's hidden knowledge and the various attempts to decode manuscripts associated with his legacy, most notably those linked to the mysterious Voynich Manuscript. The work highlights Bacon's visionary ideas in optics, alchemy, and mathematics, framed within the clandestine methods he purportedly employed to communicate his theories while avoiding institutional scrutiny. This volume serves as a critical bridge between the history of science and the evolution of cryptology, offering deep insights into the mind of one of the Middle Ages' most misunderstood and forward-thinking figures. By analyzing the structural complexities of Bacon's writing, the book provides a comprehensive look at the enduring mystery surrounding his secret works. It remains an essential resource for scholars and enthusiasts interested in the history of science, the development of secret writing, and the intellectual legacy of a true medieval pioneer. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it.
