Review
Careful scholarly editions of the only two surviving Middle English treatises of any length devoted exclusively to European political and ecclesiastical history... the most valuable service provided by Embree in this edition is a massive set of explanatory notes in which the factual materials in these chronicles are carefully sorted out from fictional ones.
