- Book 6 of 10: The Chronicles of Boone
Boone and Ruby have never thought of Chiron as simply a mage. He is their teacher, their engineer, their friend, and the brother neither of them was born with.
As their journey carries them deeper into an unfamiliar land, Chiron discovers something more dangerous than an army waiting for them. People are being bought and sold through a system built to make cruelty look lawful, and destroying a few enemies will never be enough to stop it.
This is the kind of battle Chiron was made for.
While Boone has the strength to break chains, Chiron searches for the machinery behind them: the ledgers, trade routes, hidden connections, and carefully constructed lies that allow slavery to survive. Together, they begin pulling the system apart without becoming the kind of men who believe power gives them the right to rule.
Then they discover who has been standing behind it.
Boone is forced to confront an enemy who does not merely possess extraordinary power. He believes that power makes him a god, and that everyone weaker than him exists to obey.
For Boone and Chiron, the fight becomes more than freeing a people.
It becomes a test of everything they have taught each other about power, responsibility, restraint, and what a man chooses to do when he has the strength to take whatever he wants.
