Print on Demand. Chronic urethritis, often caused by gonorrhea, is a particular type of inflammation of the urethra. Written in 1897, this book by an esteemed specialist in urethral disease for the first time presents a comprehensive analysis of the chronic urethritis condition. This book approaches the subject comprehensively, connecting and explaining the anatomical, pathological and therapeutic elements of chronic urethritis. An in-depth study of the gonococcus, preparatory and staining methods, cultures, biology, and inoculations give the reader vital information on the microorganism and its behavior. The author details the precise diagnostic methods employed at the time, describing the instruments and operative techniques involved in endoscopy. The author’s method of mechanical treatment, including the use of bougies, antrophores, dilators, and instillations, is described in depth, followed by a chapter on general treatment, and notes on the action of certain drugs on the genitourinary tract. The value of this book has persisted, as it provides essential historical detail and a sturdy foundation for modern techniques, that have not so drastically changed as one might expect given the passage of time. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book.…

This volume presents a clear view of chronic urethritis from its gonococcic origin. It emphasizes precise diagnosis as essential to effective therapy and explains how urethroscopy provides critical information for both identifying lesions and guiding treatment. The method of dilatation and careful endoscopic observation are shown as central tools for monitoring cure and predicting relapses, with an emphasis on patient-specific progress over time.
Readers gains practical insight into how endoscopy changes the course of treatment, what signs indicate improvement, and how to recognize when healing is complete. The text also discusses the limits of diagnosis and the need for ongoing observation during the healing process.
- How urethroscopy contributes to accurate diagnosis and targeted therapy
- How dilatation is applied and monitored to promote healing
- What clinicians should observe during follow-up to track progress
- When cure is likely and how relapses may be anticipated
Ideal for clinicians, students, and professionals seeking a focused, practice-oriented view of chronic gonorrheal urethritis and its management.
