Christ suffered. Christ saves. Christ lives. Christ reigns.
First Peter 3:18–22 is one of the most powerful—and sometimes most difficult—passages in the New Testament. Yet at its heart stands a wonderfully clear message: Jesus Christ suffered for our sins, rose victoriously from the dead, and now reigns in glory.
In Christ’s Victory Through Suffering, Rev. Dr. James Woods, Sr. guides readers through this remarkable passage in clear, accessible language while remaining firmly grounded in Scripture.
Beginning with Christ’s once-for-all sacrifice for sin, the study follows Peter’s message through Christ’s proclamation, the days of Noah, the meaning of baptism, the resurrection, and finally the exaltation of Jesus Christ at the right hand of God.
Along the way, readers are encouraged to consider not only what this passage meant to Peter’s original readers, but what its truths mean for Christians facing suffering, uncertainty, opposition, and spiritual discouragement today.
This book emphasizes four great assurances:
Christ suffered—therefore our salvation has been secured.
Christ saves—therefore sinners can be brought to God.
Christ lives—therefore suffering and death do not have the final word.
Christ reigns—therefore believers can live with confidence and hope.
Written for pastors, Bible teachers, Sunday school classes, Christian education ministries, small groups, and individual believers, Christ’s Victory Through Suffering combines biblical exposition with practical application and devotional reflection.
The Christian does not struggle toward an uncertain victory. Because Jesus Christ has died, risen, and ascended, the believer learns to live from the victory Christ has already won.
