This is a nostalgic, old-fashioned Christmas book for thoughtful readers who miss humorous, well staged, emotionally meaningful holiday stories. The first story is for both children and grownups. The rest of the stories are geared towards the adult reader who prefers literary Christmas nostalgia involving memories, longings, loneliness, aging, lost love, hope, bittersweet beauty, and old-fashioned Christmas feelings.
Christmas Stories From the Crones Castle by Patsy Stanley is a hauntingly beautiful collection of six illustrated Christmas stories woven together by a seventh tale that opens and closes the book like a winter fire glowing in an old stone hearth.
Though one story carries the innocence of childhood, the others wander through the bittersweet landscapes of memory, aging, loneliness, lost love, endurance, and the quiet hope that sometimes arrives during the Christmas season.
Filled with the author's whimsical illustrations and old-fashioned storytelling style, this is a Christmas book for thoughtful readers who understand that the holidays are not always merry-but are often tender, reflective, magical, and deeply human.
