Print on Demand. This book discusses the historical origins of infant baptism and builds a strong case for its legitimacy and adherence to biblical principles. The author provides an in-depth examination of the Old Testament covenant with Abraham, showing how it foreshadows the New Testament covenant in Christ and establishes the foundation for the visible church. The book also thoroughly explores the meaning and significance of baptism in the Christian church, demonstrating how it has been practiced since the time of the apostles and is rooted in the teachings of Scripture. By delving into both historical and theological arguments, the author mounts a persuasive defense of infant baptism, shedding light on its biblical basis and the role it has played in the Christian tradition throughout history. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book.…

It is well known to the student in church history, that few, very few, since the days of the apostles, have ever openly held to the damnation of any of those infants who die in infancy. The Calvinistic school forms the largest exception. There have been those who have held that all unbaptized infants, dying in infancy, go to a sort of middle state, between heaven and hell, as the reader will see in the fifth chapter of this work. Others, as St. Austin, (see pp. 209 with more consistency, held that where the want of baptism was not the fruit of any wicked and wilful disposition of the individual, he would be saved without it. The Protestant Episcopal Church, it appears, chooses, in regard to the state Of unbaptized infants hereafter, to observe entire silence. (see pp. 270, 271, of this work.)
