Print on Demand. This book delves into the fascinating world of church music, exploring its historical roots and evolution through the lens of Anglican and Gregorian traditions. The author traces the journey of sacred music from its simplest forms in plainsong, with its origins in ancient chants, to the development of harmonized settings and the emergence of Anglican choral music during the Reformation. The book delves into the specific musical elements that define these traditions, discussing the Gregorian Tones, Anglican chants, and the works of influential composers such as Tallis. It also provides insights into the practical aspects of church music, including the use of the organ and the considerations for different types of services. By examining the interplay between music, liturgy, and history, this book offers a comprehensive understanding of the role and significance of church music in shaping worship experiences. Whether you are a musician, a student of history, or simply someone who appreciates the beauty of sacred music, this book provides a rich and insightful exploration of a timeless art form. Ultimately, this book reveals how church music serves as a powerful expression of faith, connecting generations through shared traditions and enriching the spiritual lives of countless individuals. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book.…

A similar process was applied to the Gregorian Tones, which were harmonized with the Plainsong in the Tenor the Plainsong element was, however, soon dropped, and the present form of the single chant perma uently adopted, the Tenor part having no special importance the double chant was a later development, dating from about 1700. The settings of the Canticles to varied music, technically called Services, date also from about 1550, Tallys's Service in d-minor being probably the earliest.
In this book will be found all the Ritual music required for the most elaborate Service of either Anglican or Gregorian systems with the addi tion of a few Canticles in Anthem form, selected with a View to general utility: the needs of small Mission Churches have also been considered. The Plainsong is, in all cases, provided with a suggestive accompaniment for the Organ; in some instances for the first time, as in the Offices of Holy Communion and Burial: the Priest's part being in the Tenor, its natural position; and the portions for Choir in the upper part of the accompaniment.
