Japanese style bound. 19x12cm. Chinzan Tsubaki [1801-1954] is a Japanese painter of the late Edo period. A disciple of Watanabe Kazan, he specialized in Chinese-style flower-and-bird paintings. This book is a collection of about 80 seals that Chinzan stamped on his paintings, collected around the Meiji period after his death and published in book form. The seals were actually stamped, not printed, and these books are sometimes produced by seal collectors as a catalogue of their collections, sometimes used to authenticate his paintings, and sometimes used as a model for the typefaces used to engrave the seals. The book is in generally good condition, although there are some stains and page fold marks, and the back cover has been repaired by placing another sheet of paper on the back cover.
