Collected & Translated by Haiqing Hua
The "China College Entrance Examination Mathematics Questions" book is a remarkable addition to the How Chinese Students Achieve High Score in Mathematics series, meticulously compiled and translated by Haiqing Hua. This book offers an authentic glimpse into the rigorous mathematical challenges Chinese students face during their college entrance examinations, known as the Gaokao.
Content Overview:
The book features a collection of mathematics questions from several significant years and variations of the Gaokao, including:
- 2022 National Unified Entrance Examination
- 2024 National Volume I, Mathematics
- 2024 National College Entrance Examination (New Curriculum I)
- 2024 National Unified Entrance Examination for Ordinary Higher Education
- 2023 Beijing College Entrance Exam
- 2019 National Unified Entrance Examination for Ordinary Colleges and Universities
Each set of questions is presented in its original form and translated into English, making it accessible to an international audience eager to understand the depth and complexity of Chinese mathematics education. By providing these examples, the book demonstrates the high level of analytical thinking, problem-solving, and mathematical understanding that is expected of Chinese students.

The dual-language format not only helps non-Chinese speakers gain insight into the Gaokao but also serves as a learning tool for students who wish to practice their mathematical skills in both English and Chinese.
Potential Areas for Improvement:
-
Explanations and Solutions:
While the book excels in providing a collection of questions, it could be enhanced by offering detailed solutions or explanations for each problem. This would be particularly helpful for students and educators who are not only interested in the questions but also in the methodologies behind solving them. -
Contextual Background:
Including a brief overview of the structure and significance of the Gaokao, as well as how mathematics fits into the overall examination, could provide readers with more context and appreciation for the material presented.
