Item description from seller

A later impression of this fascinating guide to knowledge for children written in question-answer format. A fascinating primer which became a standard book in the classroom in its time. Exploring questions on life and general knowledge, educating children in all relevant and useful subjects. Written in a question-answer format. Published under the attribution of 'A Lady,' the volume was confirmed to be the work of Fanny Umphelby, British author, by the Dictionary of National Biography in 1900.An incredibly successful publication, it ran through fifty-eight edition by 1899, the first having appeared in 1825. The present copy is of the fiftieth edition. No half title. In quarter calf binding over marbled boards. Externally sound with some shelf wear and rubbing to the boards, a touch of sunning to the front board, with a minor loss to the upper right corner of the front board, repaired with cloth. Faint pencil previous ownership inscription to the front free endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Minor marginal annotations in pencil to the odd leaf, and light spotting to the endpapers, only affecting the first and last few leaves. Otherwise, the pages are generally clean throughout. Very Good.…
